The seventh of October, 2012 and The Great Race is under way at Mount Panorama, Bathurst, New South Wales. It’s 21 laps completed and John Reid is stranded at the top of the mountain with apparent mechanical issues. It’s the first safety car of the race and already there’s been some weirdness; a car in with a windscreen tearoff blocking the grille air intake, tyres delaminating badly and a possible brake issue with Dean Fiore’s Ford being dropped heavily off the air jacks and the car stopping just metres after moving from its pit bay.
